17th annual Get Online Week drives UK digital inclusion movement
As our national campaign returns for its 17th year, we launch a press release to announce the 865 regional events taking place to help make sure that everyone in the UK has access to free, friendly and local support to improve their digital skills.
Press release: With the UK thrown into a harsh Winter season and the cost-of-living crisis hitting communities harder than ever, Get Online Week is the nation’s only campaign of its kind and will see community partners from its unique National Digital Inclusion Network assist and facilitate digital learners at hundreds of events across the UK.
Digital exclusion is getting worse. Nearly 1 in 5 adults lack the most basic digital skills needed for everyday life, over 1 in 20 households have no internet access (neither fixed line nor mobile), and 2 million households struggle with affordability of internet access.*
Good Things Foundation, and the work it does with its partners, is the solution. Supported by strategic partners Nominet, Virgin Media O2 and Vodafone, the campaign is here to help make sure that everyone in the UK has access to free, friendly and local support to improve their digital skills.
From digital skills Q&As and techy tea parties to learning employability skills and exploring the world through VR, events across the UK delivered by hundreds of grassroots local organisations will help people grow their essential digital skills and confidence with digital.
Get Online Week, happening October 16-22 2023, is delivered by Good Things Foundation, the UK’s leading digital inclusion organisation. The charity helps people develop and improve their digital skills and teaches them how to use the internet safely and confidently, so they can be happier, healthier and better off.
Helen Milner OBE, Group CEO, Good Things Foundation:
“Now – more than ever, digital skills are critical to the wellbeing of the most vulnerable people in our society. Locked-out from essential lifelines, they’re facing a bleak winter.
Get Online Week will transform the lives and experiences of the millions of people who lack confidence, helping them find the support and resources they need to stay connected to society and access essential Government services. Through our campaigns and work with our partners, we are offering the solution – we can work together to fix the digital divide.”
